The Power of Naps

In this podcast Dr. Rodney and Karen talk about her daily practice of taking a nap. There are many benefits and a few cautions to keep in mind.

Daily naps have health benefits as well as enhance cognitive acuity.

Benefits of naps:
1) Promotes memory retention and helps with perceptual learning
2) Increases cognition so you feel more alert
3) Helps immune system
4) Regulates blood pressure and reduces stress

The length of naps should be a full sleep cycle or stop somewhere before a half hour.

Inventors used naps regularly to aid them in coming up with inventions.

The best time to nap is right after lunch.

Try a “napuccino.” The effects of the beverage take 20 minutes to kick in. Your espresso kicks so it is the best of both worlds – nap and sleep.

Avoid late naps so that you don’t disturb your sleep at night (six hours later).
